Scott Fox played down his penalty kick heroics and pointed to good fortune after Ross County’s dramatic League Cup victory over Dundee United sent them top of their group.

But the Staggies’ goalkeeper does believe Tuesday’s dramatic twist was indicative of better times ahead for his team after the trauma of last season.

With County and the Tannadice team locked in stalemate with nine minutes remaining at the Global Energy Stadium, Michael Gardyne was adjudged to have tripped United’s Sam Stanton just inside the penalty area.

Fox, though, managed to guess correctly and parry Nicky Clark’s spot-kick before recovering his footing to pull off a fantastic block from the same striker on the rebound.
