Jordan MacDonald could still add further to his young Clach squad after strengthening on the eve of Saturday’s frustrating draw at Keith.

The Lilywhites manager hinted there was business being negotiated in the background, but stressed nothing had been finalised.

Clach secured Ross County under 18s’ left-back Zach Macphee on loan, initially until January, on Friday last week with the 17-year-old making a decent debut in the 1-1 draw at Kynoch Park.

MacDonald said: “We’re satisfied with what we’ve got, but we’ll see what happens in the next week. There could possibly be another signing, but there might be nothing. We’re always working away.”

Macphee is a versatile prospect, capable of playing further forward on the left if needed. He impressed County boss Malky Mackay enough last season to be named twice on the first team bench.

The Lilys boss said: “Zach came off the bench and did well. He’s good on the ball, strong and physical, with a good delivery and likes a tackle. He likes to get up and down the park and can play further forward as well.

“He is just 17, so he will fit in with our young squad perfectly.”

After a narrow opening defeat to last season’s title runners up Buckie Thistle, MacDonald felt his side should have taken three points, rather than one at Keith.

Mikey Ironside curled in a 63rd minute opener for Keith, but Harry Hennem was taken down in the box and scored the resultant penalty after 72 minutes.

He said: “It is a game we should have won. It was down to decision-making in the final third, given the amount of great areas we got into. We didn’t execute the final part well.

“The defending for their goal was very poor. The only way Keith ever looked like scoring was if we made a mistake and that’s what we did.

“It cost us, but we got beaten there last year. It is a positive that we’ve taken a point this year, but it should have been three.”
