Jordan Macdonald would like to take Clachnacuddin further in the Scottish Cup than they managed last year – but he insists no extra motivation should be needed to go and win tomorrow.

The Lilywhites travel to Dunbar United for their first round tie this weekend, knowing that they fell at the same stage last season against Dunipace.

Macdonald is conscious of that, but he does not think that will provide extra incentive to progress this time around.

Instead, he believes the prize of victory should be enough on its own to spur Clach’s players on to victory.

“We would like to get into the next round, because we didn’t perform in the cup last year when we got a home draw,” he reasoned.

“We didn’t play well at all, and we got what we deserved against Dunipace.

“It was one of the games we didn’t do ourselves justice last season, but you get those days in football. There’s no point in crying about them, because you can’t change it.

“You’re playing in the Scottish Cup with a chance to get into the next round.

“That should be as much motivation as you need. That said, we’ll push for a bit more. You’ve always got to find that bit extra.”

Tomorrow’s match will see two in-form teams face off at New Countess Park.

Dunbar were relegated from the East of Scotland Premier Division last season, but have rebounded well to top the First Division after five games.

Clachnacuddin, meanwhile, believed they were playing better than results suggested in the opening weeks of the Highland League, but roared back to winning ways in style with consecutive 4–1 victories over Rothes.

A scouting missions had to be cancelled last week as all football was called off as a mark of respect after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but Macdonald expects a closely-fought contest in East Lothian.

“We’ve heard a few things about them,” he explained.

“Somebody was going to be watching them for me on Saturday, so that went out the window, but it’s the same for everyone.

“For all I know they might have planned to watch us last Saturday.

“We’ll be prepared to go down and enjoy it, and try to get into the next round.

“They have been playing well. They’re top of their league, and they’re definitely going well and scoring plenty of goals.

“We’ll need to be very wary of their threats, but if we’re on it they’ll need to be very wary of ours as well.”
