MANAGER Jordan MacDonald feels Clach’s stubborn belief in what they do best has helped them bounce back to form with two huge wins over Rothes.

Fresh from last Wednesday’s thumping 4-1 win to book a North of Scotland Cup final place against Brora Rangers, Clach recorded the exact same scoreline against the same team in the league at Grant Street Park.

After difficult early season results, it was another boost to the Lilywhites, although MacDonald felt performances prior to the two victories had merited far more.

Paul Brindle and James Anderson both netted doubles against a Speysiders’ team hit by injuries, but with plenty of quality.

MacDonald stressed: “Bar the Turriff United defeat, these results and performances have been coming.

“Last Wednesday, we were exceptional. On Saturday, we were good.

“Our ball retention wasn’t as good as we would like it to be, but we have still gone out there and beat a really good team, without really getting out of third gear. It should have been more, in terms of goals, as well.

“Hopefully that will be the kick-start to our season because we can’t let our standards drop from the last two performances against Rothes.

“We need to get points on the board in the league and start to climb that table.”

MacDonald has instilled positivity in his ranks in terms of attacking style. The Clach manager insists there was never any temptation to change that approach in the face of setbacks in the league.

He said: “We never changed. We deserved something from the Banks O’ Dee, Keith and Wick Academy games. It was only against Turriff where we deserved nothing.

“But we knew we could change it and we just had to keep believing in what we were doing. Sometimes in football the way to come through that is to continue to work hard and keep doing the things you believe are right.”
