Brora Rangers won the North of Scotland Cup after defeating Clachnacuddin 2–1 at Grant Street Park on Saturday.

Brora Rangers broke the deadlock after seven minutes when Dale Gillespie played a ball over the top of the defence to find Jordan Macrae who chipped it past Martin Mackinnon and the Clach defence couldn’t clear it off the line.

But the Lilywhites responded strongly and almost grabbed an equaliser when Gary Warren’s header forced a terrific save from Ruardhri Nicol.

Clachnacuddin were then denied an equaliser midway through the first half as Shaun Sutherland fired a thunderous shot from the edge of the box which smacked against the crossbar.

But they levelled just before the half hour mark as Robbie Thompson’s ball through the heart of the Brora defence was latched on to by Lewis Mackenzie.

He drove into the box before firing a low drive past Nicol.

Brora were back in front midway through the second half after Martin Maclean played in a low ball from the right wing and was pounced on by Andrew Macrae at the edge of the six yard box to fire home.

Clachnacuddin were unable to threat an equaliser in the closing stages as Brora dictated play to hold on for victory.

Macdonald admits Saturday’s defeat was a tough one to take, but his players have to put that to the back of their minds as they prepare to take on Buckie tomorrow night.

Speaking about losing the final, he admitted: “It is a sore one, but we have made massive improvements and there is positives to take from the game.

“The feeling at half time was if we did the same as we did in the first half we would win the game.

“But Brora Rangers are a quality team, but it is a messy goal they win the trophy with.

“There is no shame in losing to Brora, but it is a sore one for us to take.

“We have to use the disappointment, we could either sulk or use it and want more. I know which way I want to go and that is the way that we will try to go.”
