Over the last few weeks, the possibility of promotion and relegation between the Highland League and North Caley League has been put on the table, establishing a sixth tier in the Scottish football pyramid structure for northern clubs.

Chisholm thinks there is every chance those proposals will come to fruition, believing that clubs wanting to progress can be a good thing for everyone.

“I know that has been spoken about at SFA level anyway, so it’s not something new that has just appeared, it has been on the agenda for a while,” he said.

“They want as many levels to the pyramid system as they can. It has been discussed, but it’s good to see these clubs have ambition as well to progress.

“We’ve had Caley Thistle, Ross County, Peterhead, Elgin City and Cove Rangers do well moving up the leagues after getting out of the Highland League.

“They’ve done well for themselves, so if other clubs have the backing and the desire to push on, then good luck to them.

“There are a few clubs on the east coast that are quite ambitious as well.

“So if people are showing interest in football and it’s going to make things better, then fine.”
