CLACH boss Iain Polworth believes his troops must be ready to hunt a "wily, old fox" when they go toe-to-toe with Buckie Thistle this Saturday.

The Jags possess Caley Thistle’s record goalscorer Dennis Wyness in their ranks and, even at 38, Polworth believes the former Aberdeen and Hearts striker is still a threat.

He said: "They’ve got quality all over the park, they’ve got a good blend of youth and experience.

"They’ve got Chris Hegarty and Lewis MacKinnon at the back who are very solid, Chris Angus is always a handful and they’ve got the wily old fox Dennis Wyness up front so they’ve got a very good squad."

The Lilywhites travel to Victoria Park looking to build on their impressive 12-2 destruction of Rothes last weekend, though the Jags also secured an impressive result at Fraserburgh five days ago, coming from behind to win 2-1.

Polworth is all too aware of the threats possessed by Graeme Stewart’s side after coming a cropper 6-1 at home and 4-1 away against them last season.

He added: "They’ve turned us over a couple of times, so we’ve got to have everybody back working hard again.

"If you go to Fraserburgh and win it’s a fantastic result.

"It’s a tough place to go, they’re a good team and it’s a big, big victory for Buckie."

The Lilies manager expects to name a similar squad to the one which dismantled struggling Rothes in such emphatic fashion on Saturday.

Stand-in skipper Michael Finnis led the way, sounding a four-goal salvo, while Martin Callum weighed in with a well-taken hat-trick on his return from suspension.

On-loan Brora Rangers striker Colin MacLean opened his account for the Merkinchers with a double, while fellow forwards Daniel MacLennan and Ian Penwright notched one goal apiece.

A Liam Donaldson own goal took the Lilies up to 12, while Ryan Keir bagged a consolation brace for the visitors.

Reflecting on his side’s ruthless display of sharp-shooting, Polworth said: "There was some nice stuff played, the players responded well to the last couple of performances which is what we wanted.

"I’m sure we’ll hear all about the goals in training this week, Michael and Martin will no doubt be more than happy talking about it."
