Chairman Alex Chisholm says Clachnacuddin are conscious that they have a duty to help the club’s fans as far as possible during the cost of living crisis – as they are the Lilywhites’ lifeblood.

Much has been made about the cost of football, with complaints online every week about ticket prices in Scottish football’s professional divisions.

While costs are rising for clubs too, nobody wants to see supporters priced out of going to matches at any level of the game.

Clachnacuddin chairman Alex Chisholm has called fans the lifeblood of the club.
Clachnacuddin chairman Alex Chisholm has called fans the lifeblood of the club.

That point may hit harder for many after such a long time playing behind closed doors because of Covid, as you will be hard-pushed to find anyone who enjoyed it.

Chisholm, then, knows that while cutting costs for the club could prove crucial over the coming weeks and months, it can only be a good thing to help out supporters too where possible to do so.

“It’s an ongoing process to look at things to reduce costs to take the sting out of things, because it’s hard for people – not only for clubs, but supporters too,” Chisholm explained.

“Our guys on Saturday were through to Aberdeen, and fans of a lot of clubs travel big distances and have the cost of fuel. We were discussing how we help fans out over the weekend.

“We have an open dialogue with our supporters anyway, so they know exactly where we’re coming from.

“Everyone’s having a hard time just now with the cost of living, so we’ll try to do our bit to help supporters as well because that’s our lifeblood.”

Although clubs will see a hike in costs for putting on matches, Clach have already faced their share of challenges in recent years. As well as the pandemic, Grant Street Park was also severely damaged by a fire, and with the latest threat to cash flow there could be every reason to worry.

Chisholm, though, remains positive about the Lilywhites’ future, adding: “We’re a supporter-run club, we’re owned by supporters, so we’ll get through whatever comes our way.

“We’re going in the right direction with everything on and off the field.

“That’s down to hard work and the relationship we have with the fans. I’m absolutely positive. I see what the club is about and the people that are here, who support the club, and there’s a massive enthusiasm and support for Clach to improve.

“We’ve got so many positives with all of our squads.”
