CLACH gave Elgin City a stern test in this midweek friendly at Grant Street – but were edged out 2-1.

The Inverness side, hampered by the injury to key forward Paul Brindle, suffered another set-back just ahead of kick-off when keeper John Campbell was injured in the warm-up.

Into the nets, however, came ex-ICT and Ross County keeper Ally Ridgers.

The Highland League side with plenty of verve and Daniel Maclennan went close with an early effort.

The League Two side looked a threat in attack just five days after being edged out 2-1 by Inverness CT.

Elgin took the lead on 23 minutes when Graeme Beveridge's drive rebounded to player/coach Graham Bayne, who stabbed the ball home from close range.

The former Caley Jags and Ross County forward seemed to be in an offside position.

The Merkinchers stormed back though and Maclennan fired a low shot past Michael Fraser into the net after getting the better of Matthew Cooper.

City regained their advantage early in the second half when Daniel Moore pounced with a header to loop the ball over the top of Ridgers.

The Lilywhites, like in the first half, didn't fold and sub Gordon Morrison drew a fine diving save from Fraser.

Fraser kept the visitors ahead on 70 minutes when he stood up and pushed clear a net-bound effort from Maclennan.

Both sides had opportunities to find the net again, but it remained 2-1 and both teams could take plenty from this contest.
