CLACH were sunk by a penalty on Saturday in the Highland League as Rothes got the perfect boost ahead of their Fosters Cup semi-final with Nairn this weekend.

There was little between the Lilywhites, who are set to break free from administration, and the Speysiders as the Grant Street clash looked set for a 0-0 result.

Then, on 74 minutes, Ian Penwright handled the ball on the goal-line, conceding a penalty and was sent off.

Kris Duncan drilled the spot kick into the net to seal the win for the visitors.

Nairn County left it late to salvage a 1-1 draw away to Turriff United.

Dave McKenzie headed Turriff in front on 64 minutes, but Nairn skipper David Hind got on the end of a John Cameron corner deep into stoppage time to net a point for Les Fridge’s side.

Formartine United, bossed by former Caley Thistle manager Steve Paterson, broke their club record scoreline on Saturday with a stunning 11-2 rout of Fort William.

Skipper Stuart McKay helped himself to six goals, with the others coming from Mark Simpson, Kyle Macaulay, Paul Urquhart, Lewis Forbes and Jason Coyle.

Fort, who travelled with a weakened squad due to a number of call-offs, scored through Sean Ellis and Raymond Munro.

Meanwhile, Deveronvale took a major step towards winning the title with a 1-0 win at challengers Keith, with Graeme Watt scoring on 24 minutes.

Their main rivals are champions Buckie Thistle, who won 4-1 at Wick Academy to remain just one point behind Vale.

Forres Mechanics’ slim chances of making a late surge for top spot suffered a fatal blow when they were surprisingly beaten 4-0 at Lossiemouth.

Elsewhere, Brora Rangers beat Fraserburgh 4-2, Huntly were 2-0 victors against Strathspey Thistle and Cove Rangers left Inverurie Locos with a 1-0 victory.
