RYAN Christie has been given permission to discuss personal terms with Celtic.

Following a £500,000 bid that was lodged on Thursday night, a further approach from the champions to Caley Thistle has resulted in the player being allowed to talk to the club, which is expected to happen this morning.

Discussions took place between the board and management team with Christie, who is part of the Scotland under-21 side that is due to play Northern Ireland this weekend.

The offer made by Celtic at the end of last week included a sell-on clause and option to loan the player back to the club for the season, upon completion of the deal.

Christie, who was a year to run on his contract plus the option of another year, made his breakthrough during the 2013/14 season under new manager John Hughes.

Son of club legend Charlie, 20-year-old Christie went on to win his first caps with the under-21 side last season and was named the Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year.

He was part of the side that lifted the Scottish Cup in May and is Inverness' top scorer this season with two goals.
