CLACH chairman Alex Chisholm is delighted to have ensured that the Lilywhites were not raided over the summer – and he cannot wait for the kick off at Buckie this weekend.

The chief of the Highland League club in Inverness replaced Dennis Bridgeford in May after the Portmahomack farmer stepped down largely due to work commitments.

Chisholm (53) is now the man in the driving seat at Grant Street and he’s hoping that his excellent working relationship with boss Iain Polworth can lead to the club kicking well clear of the 14th position they finished in last season.

Big spending clubs have always seen Clach as an attractive market to raid, with Paul Brindle (Brora), being the latest in a line of players moving on after setting the heather alight in Merkinch.

However, no key departures and the addition of James Beeston (19), a talented midfielder from Ross County, with more to follow gives Chisholm hope.

He explained: "As well as being the manager, Iain works so hard in and around the club and has done for many years. He pushes more than anyone.

"He’s well versed on where the club has been and what we need to do and we’re in a strong position in that regard. He has ambitions too. He has been frustrated by seeing players move on every year, but this summer we have maintained the squad. We had not sold anyone, so that’s a great base."
