SCOTT Allardice says living up to Caley Thistle’s past success in the Scottish Cup is not a burden for the current team.

He says attempting to live up to the 2015 Scottish Cup winning team motivates them to achieve similar success in the future.

Inverness are now one game away from reaching Hampden and the Scottish Cup semi finals after beating Livingston 3-0 in what was seen as a shock victory on Saturday.

Current team members Danny Devine and Aaron Doran were part of the Scottish Cup winning side.

With images of their Scottish Cup success prevalent inside the stadium too, Allardice says there is plenty motivation for the team to try and replicate the heroics of lifting the trophy eight years ago.

He said: “Danny Devine and Aaron Doran like to remind us about it, anyway.

“But, no seeing what they achieved and still having those two lads as players shows what this club is capable of.

“I’d never say what this club has achieved in the Scottish Cup is a burden.

If anything, it motivates you to try and replicate that.

“We know we’re a long way off from how good those Scottish Cup winners were.

“But we will definitely try to strive towards that.

“They achieved it, so why can’t this current group?”

Inverness Caledonian Thistle last reached the semi finals of the Scottish Cup in 2019 when they suffered a 3-0 semi final defeat to Heart of Midlothian at Hampden.

Allardice has previous experience of playing at the national stadium, but he says to step on to the pitch in a Scottish Cup semi final would be a bigger occasion altogether,

He is determined, whoever they are up against in the quarter finals next month, to reach the last four of the competition.

“I have only played at Hampden on loan for East Fife against Queen’s Park in League One,” said Allardice.

“To reach Hampden this season in the Scottish Cup would obviously be a totally different occasion.

“Everyone wants to play in those games and I’m ambitious as a player and want to get there.

“We know the incentive is there.”
