CALEY Thistle goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams has been selected in Wales' European Championships squad.

Fon Williams has been a squad regular under Chris Coleman and will be one of his three stoppers in France, alongside number one Wayne Hennessey and ex-Aberdeen man Danny Ward.

Having been selected in the provisional side for a pre-tournament training camp in Portugal, one-cap Fon Williams was, barring injury, widely expected to take his place on the plane.

It caps a superb fortnight for the 29-year-old, who penned a three-year extension with the Caley Jags this week.

His inclusion in the Wales squad will also net the club at least £90,000 from tournament organisers UEFA, according to their revenue distribution model for the competition. However, should Wales qualify from the group, that money stands to increase the longer the former Tranmere Rovers goalkeeper is with the squad.

Fon Williams becomes the first Caley Thistle player to feature at a major international tournament since Marius Niculae's appearance for Romania at Euro 2008.

A friendly against Sweden on Sunday will conclude their pre-tournament preparations. Wales begin their campaign against Slovakia on June 11 and face a grudge match with England five days later. They close their Group B schedule against Russia on June 20.
