Inverness Caledonian Thistle Women will bring what has been an underwhelming season to an end this weekend at the Caledonian Stadium against Westdyke.

The Caley Jags had hoped to be in contention at the top of the table to at least be in with a chance of promotion, but instead they are stuck in fourth place in the Championship North.

All that is left for Caley Thistle, then, is to go out on a high on Sunday afternoon against a Westdyke side who have been busy in recent weeks trying to complete their fixtures.

ICT boss Karen Mason, though, is wary that could play into their visitors’ advantage.

“The last time we played at the stadium we put in a great showing, and put in a really good performance,” she recalled.

“Given that we’ve had a disappointing campaign I’d think there couldn’t be a better way to end the season than by hopefully going out on a high at the stadium and getting a good win over Westdyke.

“They played Dryburgh on Wednesday, and we had them last Wednesday as well, so a lot of the fixture pile-up has been on them.

“It has been a busy old time for them – I know they have forfeited a couple of games as well and given 3–0 wins to a couple of teams just because of their availability.

“We’re just desperate to play – stopping and starting doesn’t always work for us.

“I would think if anything they have the advantage. They have been playing, so they are probably sharper and they will be looking to improve on their performances as well.

“I wouldn’t say it’s any advantage for us, I would say it’s maybe an advantage for Westdyke that they’ve seen so much more football than we have over the last couple of months.”

Dead rubbers at the end of the campaign can sometimes give opportunities to rotate or experiment, but Mason feels everyone in her squad has had plenty of game time this season.

Therefore it will be business as usual come kick off at 12.30pm on Sunday, with only Nicola Ross missing for the Caley Jags as she is taking part in the Etape Loch Ness.
