Karen Mason is still looking up the Division One North table towards league leaders Aberdeen ahead of Sunday’s match against Stonehaven.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle Women will be looking to register a sixth win in seven games when the east coast side come to Millburn Academy.

That is a long way away from Stonehaven, who have only won two of their eight matches so far this season.

Caley Thistle Women’s form means they sit in third ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures, but they are five points behind Aberdeen with the Dons having a game in hand.

Mason’s side are already in the position of relying on other teams doing them a favour if they are to last the distance in the race for both the title and promotion.

But she is confident that other sides in the division are capable of pulling off shock results to help them close the gap to the top of the table.

“That’s probably quite a good thing about our league this year, it’s really competitive,” Mason insisted.

“There’s not really one game that we go into knowing we’re going to win.

“Anyone can take points off of anyone that they are around.

“So as well as getting your own games you’re hoping that someone else does you a favour along the way to help boost you up the table.”

Inverness have quickly risen up the table after a shaky start to the campaign.

That has been encouraging for Mason, who when taking those early season blips into account accepts that ICT are in a fair spot.

“We pretty pleased with where we’re at,” Mason said.

“We didn’t have a great start with our away games, it took us a wee while to get into the groove of that, but we’ve been performing well at home, which has been the main thing.

“We’re probably up where we deserve to be at this stage of the season.

“We finished third last year, so I’m hoping that second or first will be our target.”
