INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle are back in the play-off zone after an impressive victory at Cappielow.

Goals in the first half from Scott Allardice and Nikolay Todorov gave Inverness a comfortable lead at the break.

Robbie Muirhead pulled one back midway through the second half, but Todorov grabbed his second and MacKay found the net late on to seal all three points for Inverness.

They move two points ahead of Dunfermline Athletic who still have a game in hand on Inverness.

Caley Thistle were forced into a late change before kick-off after captain Sean Welsh suffered an injury in the warm-up and was replaced by Roddy MacGregor.

Inverness scored twice in the space of four minutes in the closing stages to take a commanding lead.

Inverness were awarded an indirect free kick when Aidan McAdams picked up Stephen McGinn’s passback.

Allan then laid it off for Allardice to rattle the ball into the top left corner of the net from nine yards.

Four minutes later Caley Thistle doubled their advantage as MacKay’s cross found Todorov in the box and he fired past McAdams from 12 yards out.

Morton pulled one back midway through the second half when Stephen McGinn’s cross found Robbie Muirhead who caught the Inverness defence napping as he fired home from close range.

But Todorov restored Caley Thistle's two-goal lead when he connected with Shane Sutherland’s cross with a stunning volley.

Todorov has now scored nine goals this season with four goals in his last three games.

MacKay then scored the goal of the game seven minutes from time when he curled Sutherland's cross into the top right corner from eight yards.
