INJURY ravaged Inverness Caley Thistle have snapped up former Newcastle United youth Ryan Barrett.

The 21-year-old right-back joins the Championship title hopefuls on a deal through to January.

The Welsh free agent was available outwith the transfer window after leaving the English giants under 23 set-up in the summer.

He will be given the chance to win a permanent deal in Inverness and was immediately placed on the bench for today's Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion.

A club statement said: “Ryan initially joins us until January to help bolster the squad.

“Ryan is a product of Newcastle United’s academy as he came through the ranks at St James’ Park.

“Ryan has trained with Billy Dodds’ squad this week and will be in today’s squad against Stirling Albion.”

Barrett has also represented Wales at Under 17s level.
