Match winner Steven Boyd says being battered by Motherwell and Partick Thistle earlier this season was the ‘kick up the backside’ Inverness Caledonian Thistle needed to turn their season around.

Inverness could go top of the Championship tonight if they avoid defeat against Hamilton Academical at the Caledonian Stadium.

They have put themselves in that position thanks to five straight wins in the Championship, which included last Saturday’s 1–0 win over Cove Rangers in Aberdeen, where Boyd scored the winner.

Inverness have not lost since August, when they lost 4–1 to Partick Thistle in Glasgow along with a 4–0 loss to Motherwell in the League Cup and a 1–0 defeat at home to Morton.

Boyd says August was a month where the players took a long look at themselves and realised what they needed to do to turn their campaign around.

“That was probably the kick up the backside we needed,” admitted Boyd.

“It shows you can’t go into any game and think it is going to be easy.

“We need to grind out every game.

“We’ve been grinding out performances, so it was good to get the win.

“Now we need to keep the wins going.

“Even when we’re not playing well, we have showed we can grind out a win.

“Every game is a hard game in this league, the last few matches have mostly been against teams in the top half, so it is good to get the wins.”

Boyd (25) arrived at Inverness Caledonian Thistle during the summer from Alloa Athletic.

He scored his first league goal of the campaign last weekend, and he hopes that he can continue his good form tonight against Hamilton.

“It’s another tough game, so we need to get the three points. But I am really enjoying it here so far.”
