Inverness Caledonian Thistle are still searching for their first win in the Scottish Championship after being held to a draw by Arbroath

The match never sparked into life with both teams creating few chances in a dull encounter at Gayfield.

Inverness still remain undefeated in the league following a 1–1 draw against Queen's Park.

Caley Thistle made two changes from the team that drew 1–1 with Queen's Park in Inverness last week.

Danny Devine and George Oakley both started with Steven Boyd and Austin Samuels dropped to the bench.

Caley Thistle almost took the lead after eight minutes as George Oakley got on to a cross from the left wing and lobbed a shot over Derek Gaston. But Colin Hamilton cleared the ball before it crossed the line.

Arbroath almost took the lead on the stroke of half time when Mark Ridgers saved Michael McKenna's shot from close range after connecting with Bobby Linn's cross from the left wing. Daniel Fosu had a follow up shot but was offside as the teams went into the break goalless.

Arbroath appealed for a penalty at the start of the second half when Fosu went down after a challenge from Zak Delaney. But the referee accused him of simulation and showed him a yellow card.

Substitute Austin Samuels thought he put Inverness in front on the hour mark, running on to a pass from Daniel Mackay and firing into the net.

But to the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player's dismay, he was judged to be offside.

Arbroath attacker Kieran Shanks attempted to lob the ball over Ridgers 10 minutes from time but the goalkeeper did just enough to clear the ball from danger.

Ridgers had to be alert again in the closing stages as he held a ferocious shot from Nicky Low which thundered from 30 yards out.
