Caley Thistle start SPL season at Motherwell

CALEY Thistle will kick off the new Clydesdale Bank SPL season with a trip to Motherwell on July 23.

Inverness CT manager Terry Butcher will take the Highlanders back to his former club as they aim to get off to a flying start against the Steelmen.

Stuart McCall’s Well edged ICT out in the race for a top six spot last year and this term Caley Thistle will be determined to finish in the upper half of the table.

The first home match of the season follows on July 30 when Hibernian come calling and then the Inverness side travel to Irn Bru Division One champions Dunfermline Athletic on August 6.

The following weekend, on August 13, Inverness host Rangers and August 20 sees the first North derby of the new campaign when Butcher’s team travel to Aberdeen.

Caley Thistle, who beat Celtic late on last season to all but end Neil Lennon’s team’s title hopes, visit Parkhead on September 24.

Other notable fixtures include a Christmas Eve home meeting with Aberdeen and a January 2 home clash with St Johnstone.

The final game before the split for ICT is a trip to St Johnstone on April 7.
