Inverness made three changes from the team that were defeated 3-0 by Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden.

Cammy Mackay replaced Mark Ridgers who was out due to a dislocated finger. Carl Tremarco also failed a fitness test from an injury sustained at Hampden and was replaced by Kevin McHattie at left back. Tom Walsh was dropped to the subs bench in favour of Anthony McDonald.

Morton had the first chance of the match when Gary Oliver found himself alone in the box and unleashed a powerful strike which forced a fine save from Mackay.

Inverness responded when Jamie McCart’s long ball found its way to Polworth at the edge of the box who let fly with a thunderous effort that went straight into the hands of Robby McCrorie.

But McDonald opened the scoring for Inverness after 17 minutes when the teenager picked up the ball 30 yards from goal on the right wing.

He beat several players before charging into the box and fired past McCrorie from 12 yards.

But Morton were level 10 minutes later, when Reghan Tumilty's ball was headed out of the box only to find Reece Lyon who from 18 yards thundered a low drive into the bottom right corner.

Morton took the lead four minutes before half time when they were awarded a penalty after Joe Chalmers pushed Greg Buchanan.

Greg Kiltie sent Mackay the wrong way by shooting into the bottom left corner from 12 yards.

Morton could have been 3-1 up at the start of the second half when Brad Mckay's clearance of a cross from the box fell at the feet of Kiltie.

But his shot was headed off the line by Shaun Rooney.

Inverness rescued a point when Liam Polworth's cross into the box met McCauley unchallenged who scored from close range two minutes from time.
