Daniel MacKay says nobody in the Championship has put out a statement of being clear favourites to win the Championship, indicating how open the title race is this season.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle got their league campaign back on track with a 2-0 win at Raith Rovers on Saturday.

The victory moved Inverness to fifth place in the league, six points behind leaders Ayr United.

MacKay says nobody in the division has shown form which makes them clear favourites to win the league.

He says Inverness must now capitalise on their victory at Kirkcaldy by going a run of games to put them in contention for the title.

“Nobody has put out a statement yet as everyone is beating everyone,” MacKay said.

“The first round of fixtures are always difficult as you never know what the results will be.

“The second round of fixtures when you play each other, that is when you need to find your form.”

MacKay was the best player at Stark’s Park as Caley Thistle beat Raith Rovers 2-0, playing a big part in both goals scored by Scott Allardice and Billy Mckay.

The 21-year-old, who is back at Inverness on loan from Hibernian after signing for the Premiership club last year, says he is grateful of the chance to play first team football again after being frozen out at Easter Road.

Speaking after the Raith game, he said: “It was one of the better performances since I came back.

“Maybe in the past few weeks it has been a case of me not playing for a year and getting my body used to playing again.

“The gaffer believes in me and is giving me the run in the team, and thankfully it has paid off.

“It has been a tricky few weeks for us but it is a good result and we seem to do well down here.”
