David Carson has spoken of his pride at representing Inverness Caledonian Thistle ahead of what could be his 100th appearance for the club.

The 26-year-old will reach the landmark in his next game for the club, which could be the Championship opener against newly-promoted Queen’s Park tomorrow afternoon.

First moving to the Highland capital three years ago, Carson quickly made his mark thanks to energetic displays in midfield.

More recently, though, he has established himself at right back, performing to such a high level that he was awarded a new three-year contract last April.

“It will be a great achievement for me,” the former Blackburn Rovers man said.

“Obviously I’ve loved playing for the club, and I’ll be very proud to hopefully get that 100th appearance on Saturday.

“It couldn’t be any better if it’s in front of our fans, and we pick up three points to start the season off well.

“That’s something on a personal level that I’m looking forward to, and hopefully that will happen.”

There has been plenty of turnover at Inverness since Carson’s arrival, without even taking into account dealing with the disruption of a global pandemic.

Back then, he was at something of a crossroads in his career having dropped into non-league football after leaving Blackburn.

It would have been difficult to predict that Carson, touted for his goals and assists, would become a key part of ICT’s backline, but he feels the move has brought his game to a new level.

“If I’m being brutally honest, I came here after being in and out of academy teams and I dropped down to non-league for a little while, and I know that a lot of fans didn’t really know much about me when I came up here,” Carson recalled.

“On a personal level I think I’ve done quite well to make the fans understand why I was brought to the club.

“The club has always been up there challenging for the play-offs, but in the last year-and-a-half, after Covid, things have progressed a little bit more.

“Things are on the up, and that’s why I signed a new deal to try and get the club back to where they belong.

“It’s a place I’m enjoying my football, and I think I’ve improved every year. We’ve got a strong group this year, so everything’s moving in the right direction.”
