CALEY Thistle stand to pocket over £100,000 from UEFA after Owain Fon Williams’ participation in Euro 2016 stretched into the second round.

UEFA dishes out payments to clubs whose players feature in the European Championships and the Caley Jags were already due to receive just shy of £90,000 for Fon Williams being part of the Wales side in the group stages.

However, with their progression to the round of 16, where they face Northern Ireland tomorrow, the payment from the tournament’s governing body will increase.

Inverness are classed as a Category Two club and will be paid £3570 (€4530) per day Fon Williams is on duty. The goalkeeper, who signed a new three-year deal with the club last month, will have been on duty for 30 days following tomorrow’s game, meaning Caley Thistle stand to gain £107,100 should Wales be eliminated.

Of course, should Wales progress to the quarter-finals, they would not play again until next Friday, meaning the cash package would swell to close to £130,000.

Agreed regulations state payments cover the dates two weeks before the national team’s first game, until the day after their final game of the competition.

Caley Thistle's Development League side have been drawn at home to Arbroath in the first round of the Irn Bru Challenge Cup.In the first season of under-20 sides being allowed into the competition, Duncan Shearer’s team will host the Lichties in the north section. Their Highland neighbours Ross County are at home to Brora Rangers, with all games to take place on the August 2 and 3.

The 14 winners from the first round will be joined by East Fife, Elgin City and the clubs from last season’s League One (minus Dunfermline Athletic and Ayr United) for the second round. The Ladbrokes Championship clubs join the competition in the third round along with Dunfermline and Ayr.

Representatives from the Northern Ireland and Wales, controversially welcomed into the competition, will join at the fourth round stage. Crusaders and Linfield from Northern Ireland and Welsh Premier League sides Bala Town and The New Saints will lie in wait.

The Caley Jags first team have added another two pre-season friendlies to their schedule and will travel to Elgin City on July 12 and Forres a week later.
