CAMERON Harper is convinced Saturday’s return to winning ways can be the spark to ignite Caley Thistle in the Championship.

The young left-back hates losing – and finds it wrecks his whole weekend.

As such, the victory in Kirkcaldy brought sweet relief after three disappointing defeats.

Billy Dodds and his team have made no secret of their desire to bounce back from last season’s promotion near-miss and go one better.

For Harper, an ever-present so far, the hard-fought three points felt like a hugely positive step forward.

“It maybe wasn’t the most glamorous, but it was the team performance we needed – a real togetherness – to get back to winning ways,” he said. “We’d had a few bad results, but once we got the first goal I felt like we were back at it.

“I was relieved because defeats kill your weekend. I hate losing. I get a real buzz from winning anything, even in day-to-day life, whether it is a game of darts or a game of football.

“Ask any of our boys, we’re just desperate to win every week because it is such a good feeling and sets us heading for where we want to be. Hopefully the Raith victory is a wee kick-starter for us because, in this league, putting a string of wins together can put a team right up there.”

Harper, ready for Hamilton at home this weekend, endured a patchy last campaign, with 13 starts and 24 substitute bows.

“I’m loving starting every week,” he said. “I’ve played every 90 minutes bar Albion Rovers. It was a very frustrating last season for me. I’d be lying if I said I was happy, but I was respectful of the gaffer’s decision. I’ve made over 80 appearances now – quite a lot for my age – and it makes you grow up and learn the game quicker, but it could have been more in my opinion.”
