Lewis Hyde says he gets insight from Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s players all the time – but not necessarily always about his own game.
The 20-year-old has no lack of teammates around him with knowledge that he can tap into, even some that he grew up watching.
A season ticket holder as a child, Hyde was regularly at the Caledonian Stadium to see the Caley Jags finish in the Premiership’s top six under Terry Butcher and reach cup finals under John Hughes.
Of course, the likes of Aaron Doran, Danny Devine and Billy Mckay were key members of the team in that era, and now Hyde lines up alongside them in training and matches.
While absolutely taking advice on how to become better himself, then, Hyde also has the chance to discover more about what the club was like back then.
“I’ve improved my game management, a lot of positional stuff, my confidence has got better – there’s a lot that I can’t really put my finger on,” Hyde explained.
“It’s mainly positional work, getting up in the game and doing what I’m good at to affect the game as best I can.
“I’m talking to everyone that can play centre midfield, and I’m even talking to the more experienced boys like Aaron Doran, Billy Mckay, Shane Sutherland, Danny Devine and Ryan Esson has helped me a lot too. It’s a good laugh.
“I don’t really think about it too much day-to-day, because it’s my job, but I told them I grew up watching them at the start of the season, and they just said I made them feel old.
“It’s funny hearing their stories, because I grew up wondering what it was like back then.
“It’s brilliant, I’m getting all the behind the scenes information now.”
