Inverness Caledonian Thistle confirm they have contacted SFA over Rossvale plans to change name to Caledonian Thistle

Inverness Caledonian Thistle have confirmed they have contacted the SFA over plans by a Glasgow football club to change their name to Caledonian Thistle.

West of Scotland First Division outfit Rossvale confirmed that they will be changing their name to Caledonian Thistle Football Club next season.

The club based in the Springburn area of Glasgow, want to change their name to reflect the community they are based in.

The name is based on the Caledonian Railway Locomotive Works which was based in the area.

The club will officially change their name on Saturday, July 1. Inverness Caledonian Thistle released a statement that they have contacted the SFA regarding the issue.

A statement from Inverness Caledonian Thistle said: "The club can confirm that we have been in correspondence with the SFA in relation to this matter."

Rossvale released a statement on social media detailing the reasons why they are changing their name to Caledonian Thistle.

"After 13 seasons as Rossvale Football Club, we are now embarking on a new exciting venture.

"Having been passed by the WOSFL, we now await SFA approval.

"The main reasons for our club's new name is very simple but also very important. For eight of our seasons at semi professional level, we have played out of of Petershill Park in Springburn.

"It is where we call our home, so to integreate ourselves within the community and have an even stronger connection in the area.

"So to be allowed to help honour and keep the memory running of the world famous Caledonian Railway Locomotive Works, we will be Caledonian Thistle Football Club."
