Inverness Caledonian Thistle continued their winning start to the season as they came from behind to beat Cowdenbeath in the Betfred Cup.

The Caley Jags were laboured to start with and deservedly fell behind when Jordyn Sheerin swivelled on the edge of the box before hammering a fine shot into the top corner.

However, that sparked the visitors into life and Tom Walsh hauled them level ten minutes later, smashing home after getting on the end of Jordan White’s knock-down.

He added his second of the evening soon afterwards with a fine solo effort, running with the ball from close to the halfway line and riding a couple of cynical challenges before slotting past David McGurn and in off the post.

Vice-captain Aaron Doran consolidated Caley Thistle’s lead in controversial circumstances on the stroke of half time. The Cowdenbeath defenders were adamant he had controlled the ball with his hand, but nothing was given, leaving the Irishman to tap home from close range.

With 17 minutes to go, the visitors extended their lead further. White was unfortunate to see his header kept out thanks to an unbelievable save from McGurn, but substitute George Oakley was first to the rebound, rifling high into the roof of the net.

The visitors had their fifth as the game entered its closing stages, and the goal arrived in comical fashion. Charlie Trafford tried his luck, and his shot cannoned off Doran, wrong-footing the helpless McGurn.

Cowdenbeath did not let their heads drop and pulled one back with nine minutes to play when Sheerin raced clear, slotting under Ridgers for his second of the evening.
