Karen Mason says she is hoping that messages she has tried to put through to Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s women will finally sink in against Morton this Sunday.

Last weekend was a frustrating one for the Caley Thistle boss, who watched her side miss a handful of chances against Renfrew before conceding three goals in 10 minutes.

It was a case of deja vu for Mason, who says she has already tried various different methods of fixing the problems in ICT’s performances.

“It’s the same in every game that we seem to play this season,” she said.

“We’re seeing missed opportunities and errors, and we’re not punishing teams for their mistakes but they’re punishing us.

“It’s frustrating to see week in and week out, no matter what approach we take.

“A lot of it is knowledge of the game. I don’t think enough of them watch enough football to know what to do.

“They’re not seeing that next pass – they might see one, but they don’t see where the bigger picture is at times.

“Standing on the sidelines I know what my next pass would be, but they can’t always work that out themselves, and by the time they’ve seen it, the opportunity has gone.

“We’ve got to try and look at it in a different way to see if that works, and continually try to drum in what we’re looking for. We can’t stop trying until we get what we need.”

This weekend Morton brings a different challenge, sitting two spots below Inverness, but Mason is adamant they will not be taken lightly.

“They came up to Inverness and beat us earlier in the season,” she recalled.

“We won’t be approaching it any differently to how we played (league leaders) Livingston, for example.

“Morton played a slightly different formation to us, a 4–3–3, and that fried some brains because we didn’t know what to do with their extra midfielder at times.

“They were young, fit, and they pass the ball well, so we’ll have to be ready for what they may bring.”

Kirsty Deans and Katie Clelland remain on the injured list, while Alex Andrews is unavailable.
