MANAGER Duncan Ferguson has condemned alleged abuse towards the son of striker Billy Mckay during Inverness Caledonian Thistle's match with Dunfermline Athletic on Tuesday night.

Two days ago, Mckay took to social media to write that his son was the target of verbal abuse in the 0-0 draw at the Caledonian Stadium on Tuesday night.

Mckay (35) missed a penalty in the 0-0 draw, with the result leaving them in the relegation play-off zone in the Championship.

After the game Mckay took to social media site X, formerly known as Twitter claiming that verbal abuse was directed at his son by fans and said that the actions from those responsible was not acceptable.

In the message on Twitter he wrote: “Not big on social media, obviously gutted I’ve cost the boys three points tonight hold my hands up!

“And listen I’m happy to take abuse or criticism at me no problem had it plenty of times in my career.

“But to shout my son then abuse me to him I don’t think is acceptable.”

At a press conference on Thursday morning, Ferguson also condemned the claimed abuse, saying it had no place at the club.

“That should not happen” said Ferguson.

“Players will get shouted at when you’re not winning games of football, but any shouts aimed towards a young lad is not right.

“People are on your back when you’re not winning - that’s the way some fans are, not all fans, just some.

“That’s part and parcel of the game, but for a young lad, whose dad is a legend at this club, is totally out of order.”
