KAREN Mason is looking for a big reaction from Caley Thistle on Sunday after a stunning run of form was interrupted by an error-strewn defeat to East Fife.

Edinburgh City are next up for the Inverness women who saw a three-game winning run in league and cup action terminated by the Fifers at home last weekend.

That left ICTWFC six points behind leaders Rossvale after six matches.

Manager Mason felt her side played well in spells, but lacked a killer touch in the first half, before mistakes set in.

“It was a bit of a slip-up, unfortunately, on Sunday,” she said.

“We’d been in good form, playing really well, but that’s not to say we didn’t play well on Sunday - we just had multiple chances that we couldn’t put away.

“We went 1-0 up and it probably should have been a lot more. Had we done that, East Fife might have crumbled, but their goalkeeper had the game of her life. Three mistakes then let them in during the second half. It is a setback, but it is probably a wee wake-up call that we needed at this stage to get everyone back down to earth.”

Mason has a full Caley Thistle squad of 17 fit players to choose from this weekend against a side that won League One last season to seal promotion with 25 victories and two draws from 27 outings.

“Edinburgh City have experienced a difficult start to the season, but they are a team who came through last season undefeated in the league on their way to the title,” Mason stressed.

“What Sunday showed was that we certainly can’t afford to take anyone lightly. We want to show last weekend was a blip. There have been a lot of positives from our start to the season, and defensively we’ve been sound. But we didn’t have quite our usual grit and fight to get back into the match last weekend.

“We’re looking for a good reaction from the team going into another important home match.”
