Inverness Caledonian Thistle slipped further down the Championship table after falling to a 1–0 defeat against Greenock Morton.

Grant Gillespie's late penalty proved to be the difference between the sides, but in truth neither goalkeeper had too much to do throughout the afternoon.

Neither team were able to get into any sort of rhythm in the first half, with sights of goal few and far between.

In the early going Austin Samuels in particular was not allowed to build any momentum as he ended up on the ground more often than not, eventually being forced off with injury midway through the first half.

Even when players on both teams did find a yard of space to get an effort away, the shots did not massively trouble either goalkeeper.

Roddy MacGregor hit the target, but shot straight into the arms of Brian Schwake, while Mark Ridgers did get his palms stung by Jaze Kabia.

Proceedings threatened to take a fiery turn as the interval came close, with first MacGregor and then Scott Allardice both going into challenges late – with the latter being shown a yellow card for his troubles.

The second half threatened to be just as scarce in terms of chances, but around the hour mark Mark Ridgers was forced into a good save.

Jaze Kabia carried his side into the attacking third with a run down the left flank before checking back on to his right foot and excellently picking out Jai Quitongo.

The attacker's first touch was just as good, taking the ball down and firing it towards goal where Ridgers could only deflect it on to the bar before it bounced clear.

That looked to be as close as any team would come to breaking the deadlock though, with MacGregor putting a header wide inside the final 10 minutes, until Morton got a penalty.

Wallace Duffy was penalised for handball when challenging Jack Baird for a header, and Morton skipper Grant Gillespie duly converted to take the points to Greenock.
