CALEY Thistle made in three pre-season wins on the spin as they defeated League Two hosts Elgin City 2-1 at Borough Briggs on Saturday.

After straight-forward victories at Highland League sides Clach and Forres Mechanics, their preparations were stepped up a notch against a City side without ex-ICT star Dennis Wyness and defender Jamie Duff.

Unsurprisingly, this was by far the Inverness side’s sternest test this summer and they fell behind to a goal after just three minutes when former Ross County forward Craig Gunn cashed in on a parried save by keeper Dean Brill.

Billy Mckay, whose goals will again by vital for the Highlanders in the new season, hauled his team level on 22 minutes when he steered home a cross from Graeme Shinnie.

The winner came on 74 minutes for ICT when Marley Watkins headed past former ICT and Ross County keeper Michael Fraser after fine work on the right flank from Josh Meekings.
