Billy Dodds has paid tribute to outgoing defender Kirk Broadfoot as the experienced centre back prepares to leave the club.

The 37-year-old revealed in the aftermath of Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s 6–2 aggregate defeat in the Premiership play-off final that he was set to make his exit from the Highlands when his contract expired.

Despite only arriving in Inverness less than a year ago, Broadfoot cited travel – with his family still based further south – as the reason he would not be continuing to ply his trade at the Caledonian Stadium.

As far as Dodds is concerned, though, the impact Broadfoot has made on the club in his short spell cannot be understated, hailing his professionalism as a role model for younger players.

“I think he’s brought a lot to the club – not just as a player and the standards he brings, but with the person he is and the desire and determined attitude he has,” Dodds explained.

“Sometimes big Kirk will be desperate to win, and that’s a thing that a lot of the boys probably haven’t seen before.

“That’s why he has played in a UEFA Cup final. He has brought that standard where you’ve no idea how good of a professional he is.

“The young boys see the things he does, it’s unique, and I think he’s brought a lot to the club as a player but also as a person off the park in terms of how he looks after his body.

“To be fair, it’s only the travel for the big man. I’m sure if we were down in Ayrshire he would have stayed.”

Broadfoot was a key part of ICT’s squad in the 2021/22 season.

He made 46 appearances across all competitions – second only to Robbie Deas – scoring two goals, both in league matches against Partick Thistle at the Caledonian Stadium.
