Caley Thistle youngster Matthew Strachan will spend the rest of the season on-loan at Nairn County.

The highly-rated 17-year-old made a first team breakthrough this season with six appearances during the club’s injury-hit run of matches last year.

Among them was a first start for Billy Dodds’ team in the SPFL Trust Trophy cup defeat away to Hamilton Accies.

The central defender, who can also operate at left-back, has impressed Caley Jags’ coaching staff with his progress and potential, but now has a chance to gain a regular run of matches at senior level.

With a clutch of senior first team regulars now returning to fitness, manager Dodds has sanctioned the Inverness-born teenager’s loan deal with a view to the next stage in his development.

Nairn County manager Steven Mackay, who has guided the team from relegation danger to eighth in the table since taking charge in October, believes Strachan can strengthen his squad while gaining invaluable first team experience alongside the likes of past Caley Thistle stalwart Ross Tokely.

Mackay said: "We're delighted to have young Matthew on board for the rest of the season and thank Caley Thistle for making the deal possible.

“Matthew is a talented player with a big future ahead of him in the game, so we are really pleased to have brought him to the club.

“He comes really highly recommended and will bring additional qualities to our team.

"He is comfortable on the ball and has already been exposed to a high level of football at a young age having featured for Inverness Caley Thistle in the Championship this season.

“We are delighted to have been entrusted by Inverness CT to take on this stage of Matthew’s development.

"We already have goalkeeper Lewis Munro on loan from Inverness and this is a relationship we hope will benefit all parties, and go from strength to strength in the coming months.

“Matthew met up with the rest of the squad at training last night and fitted right in.

"He comes into my thinking for tomorrow’s match at Inverurie.”
