HIGHLAND’S senior side have had the time to savour their winning of both the Caledonia League Division Two North title and North Bowl last weekend as they do not have a competitive fixture tomorrow.

It means, however, that the city club do not have the benefit of a game to keep them match fit in readiness for the National Bowl semi-final away to Uddingston next Saturday.

Head coach Davie Carson will be hoping the break works in Highland’s favour, giving some of the players time to recover from injuries and knocks.

With no senior action, the main focus of attention switches to junior rugby as Highland hosts the Caledonia Junior Finals Day at Canal Park on Sunday.

A total of 24 sides from throughout the region will compete for cup, plate, shield and bowl honours in the three age groups — under-15, under-16 and under-18.

The action begins at 11am with officials looking to have the 12 finals completed by late afternoon. The schedule is as follows:

Under-15: Cup — Angus v Stirling County (2pm); Shield — Aberdeen Grammar v Orkney (11am); Plate — Mackie Academy v Falkirk (2pm); Bowl — Howe of Fife v Perthshire.

Under-16: Cup — Falkirk v Ross Sutherland (12.30pm); Shield — Highland v Ellon (11am); Plate — Moray v Aberdeen Grammar (12.30pm); Bowl — Hillfoots/Bannockburn v Perthshire (2pm).

Under-18: Cup — Highland v Ellon (11am); Shield — Aberdeen Grammar v Mackie Academy (11am); Plate — Moray v Aberdeen Wanderers (12.30pm); Bowl — Kirkcaldy v Orkney (2pm).

Meanwhile, Highland’s under-15s have a friendly match on tomorrow against Oban and Mull Select with a 1.30pm kick-off at Canal Park.

The mini and micro training sessions, which usually take place on a Sunday, are still to be confirmed due to the Caledonia Junior Finals Day being played.
