AN Inverness boxing club is looking for public support to help them raise £3500 to upgrade their heating system so their fighters are not out in the cold.
They are making the appeal as their current heating system is faulty and is no longer safe to use.
The club have come with up temporary measures in the gym to keep athletes warm during training sessions.
But they are asking for donations to install a permanent heating system.
So far, they have raised over £400 with athletes and coaches at the club promoting the appeal.
HBA head coach Liam Foy says they are hopeful the appeal will be successful and they can install the equipment to require for a permanent fully functioning heating system.
“What we had in the gym was a series of plug in air blower heaters which had been on full tilt due to the recent severe cold,” he said.
“Two of them overheated where the plugs melted and became a fire risk. The electrician came in and made it safe, but we were told we can’t run these at full capacity.
“So we are looking to get a new heating system into the gym and get the money required. We are looking to get as much support as we can so that we can upgrade our system.”
Highland Boxing Academy have achieved huge success at national level over the years. And despite the heating setback, Foy said his athletes are determined to do what they can to support the club whilst training for future fights.
“Our fighters are preparing for a tournament in January and we have heating, but without running them on full power they are not having the same impact.”
