Billy Dodds will not be tempted to rip up the playbook and throw a curveball at teams as Inverness Caledonian Thistle look to return to the upper echelon of the Scottish Championship.

Seven league matches without a win, supplemented by their SPFL Trust Trophy exit when a youthful side lost at Hamilton, have the Caley Jags desperate to keep tabs on the race for promotion.

Picking up points, though, is easier said than done.

Heading into the third round of fixtures, teams know each other extremely well at this stage of the campaign.

Managers, then, are left with a choice – stick with what has been working, or try and catch their opposite numbers out by doing something different.

As far as Dodds is concerned though, making drastic changes to his set up would be a sign of desperation, so for him it is business as usual ahead of tonight’s trip to Partick Thistle.

“Even though we had the bad run last season, we never changed,” he recalled.

“Sometimes you lose confidence from a few bad results, then you pick up and go again. You trust your process.

“I think you start throwing in curveballs – although you would never say don’t do anything different – when you’re desperate, and we’re not desperate.

“I won’t break what we do. I might make different decisions along the way, but I don’t think there will be too many curveballs.

“I’m not expecting anything different from Partick either. When Ian was having a few bad results, they stuck to what they did best because they knew it would turn at some point.

“Now they’ve won two and drawn one of their last three games, so it has turned for them and it will turn for us.”
