Don Cowie is confident that Ross County have the firepower to escape the Premiership’s bottom two before the end of the season.

The last week has seen the Staggies twice opt to play with three forwards – with Jordan White, Simon Murray and Eamonn Brophy all involved from the start.

It was a gamble, but it has paid off in more ways than one.

Brophy scored twice against Livingston last weekend, while White found the net against St Mirren on Tuesday evening, with County claiming four points out of six.

With the club sitting in the relegation play-off place with six tricky matches left before the split, County are in a fight to stay in Scotland’s top flight this season.

However, with different profiles of attackers giving different threats for opposition sides to contend with, Cowie is confident in his team’s ability to escape any danger.

“I saw good signs last Saturday and they were a real threat in that game,” Cowie explained.

“It was good that (on Tuesday) it was Jordan who got the reward with the goal.

“I think it gives us a platform to go and attack the opposition. When you have three players like that, who are all very different and bring different qualities, they compliment each other very well.

“I have seen over the last few games to think that there is something there we can build on.

“We’ve not scored enough for the quality of attacking players we have at this club – you can add Josh Sims and Yan Dhanda into that as well.

“We have real quality and it is up to me to find the right formula that we score enough goals going into these games.”

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Hibernian, Cowie is seeing a number of injured players edge closer to fitness – although it may be too soon for them to be involved at Easter Road.

Jack Baldwin was back on the bench against St Mirren having just returned to full training, while Connor Randall and Yan Dhanda are making progress in their own recoveries.

Ross Callachan, who is yet to play this season, is not yet back in full training after picking up a setback in his comeback from an ACL injury, with Cowie remaining patient on his status.
