ALLAN Macdonald reckons shaping up against top-flight opposition can help Clach get off to a flying start.
The Clach assistant manager took charge of the Lilywhites on Tuesday as Ross County’s new-look side ran out 4-0 winners.
The Inverness team put a lot into the game felt the scoreline didn’t quite reflect the balance of play as goals from Darren Maatsen, Joe Cardle, Liam Boyce and a Michael Finnis own goal made the difference.
Whilst a 3-1 bounce game win on Friday against Highland League opponents Fort William kept them sharp, 4-0 defeats against Caley Thistle and Ross County and a 2-1 loss at home to Scottish League Two side Elgin City will really benefit the players, according to Macdonald.
He explained: "We now have Caley Thistle next Wednesday in the North of Scotland Cup, so this match gave us another game against full-time opposition. Teams like Ross County keep you on your toes and they move the ball quickly without dwelling on it, so it means we have to be sharp.
"Up until the point of the substitutions in the second half, which interrupted the play a little bit, I thought we played pretty well and I was pleased with the exercise.
"I felt the scoreline was a bit harsh on us, given what we put into the game. That’s what these teams can do to you, so you have to concentrate."
Clach boss Iain Polworth, who is on holiday this week, looks likely to take trialist forward Daniel Maclennan on board, with injured striker Paul Brindle sidelined for several weeks.
Macdonald said: "Big Daniel is going well for us, he just needs to get up to the pace of the Highland League a little, but that will come. I am sure the Ross County game was a bit of an eye opener for him, but he was fine and he showed he has got something.
"We haven’t lost too many players over the summer, nor have we taken many in. Iain has an eye on one or two lads to come in."
