LOCHABER and District Motor Cycle Club host the third round of the 2011 Solo British Trials Championships this weekend at The Mound in Kinlochleven.

Saturday is practice day, with the competition taking place on Sunday from 10am. The event will see riders battle it out in Championship, Expert A and B and Youth categories.

Kinlochleven rider Gary MacDonald will ride the ‘Expert A’ route and will be determined to defend his victory last year on home turf.

The Lochaber club’s chairman, David Dignan said: “This year we have a new clerk of the course, Ali Morrice, who taking on the running of the trial. He’s being helped by Duncan MacRae.

“We’d like to thank Arthur MacDonald and his wife Sandra who successfully ran it for the last eight years.

“This event features the very best of British riders and three of them are riding on world class stage at the moment.

“We’re looking for a good turnout of spectators on Sunday and all sections are accessible from the roadside.

Meanwhile, Kinlochleven was the venue recently for the Ian Pollock Memorial Trial. On a glorious day there was a full complement of 125 riders competing in the various classes.

Gary MacDonald came out on top in the ‘A Route’, ahead of Neil Dawson and Andy Anderson. The Masters event was won by Scott Alexander. Alan Crayk triumphed in the ‘B Route’ contest and local lad Jack Dignan took the honours in the youth trial.

Other local riders Philip MacRae, Ali Wardlaw, Alan MacMaster, Gary MacLennan and Gavin Brown all did well within their respective classes.

David Dignan said: “Big thanks go to Gary MacLennan and his helpers for laying out such a good traditional Scottish trial which attracted nearly 40 English riders. We also thank Rio Tinto Alcan for use of the land.”

Lochaber and District Motor Cycle Club’s next club trial, the last in the run up to the Scottish Six Days Trials for local riders, is the Roughburn at Fersit, on Sunday, April 24.
