BEAULY bid to become North of Scotland Junior champions tomorrow for the first time in over half a century when they face Fort William in the final of the Strathdearn Cup at Craigard Park, Invergarry.

A win would bring the trophy to the Beauly cabinet trophy for the first time since 1956, although they have contested the final unsuccessfully in the intervening years.

Both teams have a good blend of youth and experience with Beauly’s defence anchored by the evergreen Roger Cormack, while multi-Camanachd Cup winner Addie Robertson plays a similar role for the Fort.

The nucleus of Beauly’s side is a talented group of teenagers who have helped the side to the North Division Three championship.

Although the Fort are lying second from bottom in North Division Two, they will start as favourites for a match throws up at 3pm and will be played to a finish with extra-time and penalties if required.

There are four games in the Orion Premiership with Lovat and Glenurquhart back in league action after a spell without a scheduled match.

Lovat, with just two matches remaining, are out of league contention, but a third place finish is within their grasp and they will look to take both points against Kingussie at the Dell.

Glenurquhart take the field for the first time since their MacAulay Cup triumph with a difficult away fixture at Inveraray.

Newtonmore will be confident of taking both points against relegated Bute, but title rivals Kyles Athletic will have a fight on their hands when they face Kinlochshiel at Tighnabruaich.

In the Marine Harvest leagues, North Division One title contenders Lochaber and Skye are both in action with Skye entertaining bottom club Strathglass, while Lochaber have home advantage for their clash with Beauly — a game that starts at noon to allow the Beauly players to attend the Strathdearn Cup final.

Meanwhile, in a new initiative the Camanachd Association are piloting an inter district under-14 and under-17 competition involving the four North Area districts of Inverness, Lochaber, Badenoch and Skye and Wester Ross.

The under-14 competition takes place at Spean Bridge on Sunday with the under-17 competition a week later at the same venue.

The Inverness Area Under 14 squad will be managed by Lovat’s James Gallagher, while Glenurquhart captain Stuart MacKintosh will take charge of the under-17s.
