Scotland defeated Ireland in the annual Shinty Hurling international turning an eight point deficit at the break into a 1-11 (14) – 1-9 (12) win with three scores in the final four minutes securing a hard earned victory.

This took the run of home wins in this fixture to an impressive five and saw the home team retain the Marine Harvest Quaich.

Scotland’s new manager Garry Reid went for an experienced squad with 14 of his 20 man selection retaining their places from last year. With a strong west wind making its presence felt at Bught Park it was apparent it would be a influence on proceedings and Ireland who had this in their favour in the first half.

The hurlers used this to their advantage and sent the ball over the bar of Stuart MacDonald’s goal six times in the opening 20 minutes to take a 6-0 lead.
