RBS has agreed a partnership with the Camanachd Association to support the National First Shinty Festival for primary school pupils next year.

Around 700 children from more than 80 primaries will compete in 15 regional qualifying tournaments over the next six weeks in a bid to compete in the finals in Fort William on 25th February.

“These finals are a tremendously important stage in a young shinty player’s pathway and a key component of the Association’s drive to increase the number of schools offering shinty to pupils,” said Archie Robertson, president of the Camanachd Association.

“To have the support of an organisation like RBS is excellent and this is a partnership that the Camanachd Association can build on for the future.”

RBS sponsorship manager Bruce Cook said the sport was of great importance to many of the communities where the firm does business.

“This festival plays an important role in the long-term sustainability of the sport and we’re very pleased to offer our support,” he added.
