CAMERON Harper believes Saturday’s victory over Ayr United and the elements can be a crucial scene-setter for Friday night delight against Partick Thistle.

It was a case of winning ugly in the face of a howling gale and hammering rain at Somerset Park and, again, it was young Harper who delivered just as he had with a match-winning double against Dundee.

The left-back, deployed in central midfield over the last few games, is in fantastic form approaching the vital showdown with the Maryhill Jags.

Inverness will want revenge against the Championship leaders given the humbling nature of their 4-1 Friday night beating by Partick before live cameras at Firhill on August 19.

“Partick on Friday is a huge one, I think,” Harper said.

“We’ve had three away games against tough teams in Raith, Dundee and Ayr, and come away with nine points, which is brilliant.

“It sets up a cracker against Partick who won 5-1 at the weekend. We know they will come north in a confident mood, but the win sets us up brilliantly to go and beat them.”

Reflecting on a gritty performance in hellish Ayrshire conditions, Harper added: “It was a huge three points, given the conditions.

“We were up against it in the first half, being downwind. Getting in at 0-0 gave ourselves a chance of winning the game, with the wind behind us and going downhill.

“With the torrential rain, it was absolutely minging! It was all about digging deep and everyone did their jobs defensively.

“I think it is the second header I’ve scored in my career proper, but I’m just happy to be helping the team get the three points.

“I don’t know what’s happened to me, to be honest! I’m just trying my best to impact matches in every way I can and help the team.”
