Inverness Athletic’s caretaker manager Jason Golabek is looking to boost his squad ahead of their Football Times Cup group match against Invergordon at the Recreation Grounds on Saturday.

Athletic fell short again last Saturday when they went down 3-1 against North Caledonian League leaders St Duthus at Grant Park last week.

“We will be looking to bring in new players this week,” said Golabek.

“We only had one substitute on the bench against St Duthus – hopefully we will have more players available against Invergordon. We will try to freshen things up and go again.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s match, he added: “We felt we were in the game in the first half, but we took our foot off the gas and were punished with a set piece.

“Their second goal gave them a lift and when they got the third it killed the game.”

St Duthus made an early breakthrough when Stafan MacRitchie scooped the ball past Athletic keeper Sandy Stephen for the opener after Liam Rostock set him up.

Saints’ skipper Cammy Mackintosh was unlucky with an effort which rebounded off the crossbar seconds later.

But Athletic got back on level terms in the sixth minute when a Dominick Edwards corner ended up in the net off the head of Saints’ defender Will Ross.

There were no more goals in an evenly contested first period, but two goals early in the second half put the result beyond doubt.

Ross made up for his own-goal in the 55th minute when he headed a Rostock free kick into the net at the right end of the park.

Ben Bruce made sure of the points in the 62nd minute when he scooped home a square ball from Jon Campbell.

HRL are on the brink of winning the Community Cup League after an emphatic 5-1 victory over Invergordon Social Club at the Highland Football Academy on Sunday. A win against Tomatin this weekend will secure back-to-back titles for HRL.
