Inverness Athletic manager Jason Golabek is hoping a change of scenery will help his players get back to winning ways when they take on Halkirk United at Morrison Park.

Their last couple of victories have been on the road at Invergordon and Helmsdale after a barren spell at Inverness Royal Academy, which included a 4–0 loss to Golspie last weekend.

“The astro hasn’t been kind to us this season,” said Golabek.

“It will be good to get an away trip. We lost to Halkirk down here and it will be tough, but hopefully we can go there and get a win.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s defeat to Golspie, he added: “Three of the goals we lost were from cross balls which we didn’t defend well enough. We can’t afford to lose goals like that.

“It will get us nowhere. We need to do better.”

Golspie took the lead in the 13th minute when Ally MacLeod swept home a Liam Bremner cross.

Phil MacDonald and DJ MacPhee came close with efforts which flew wide of the upright.

But the visitors doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Bremner knocked in a Martin Banks delivery.

Golspie stretched their lead just before the hour mark to put the match out of Athletic’s reach. Grant MacNab scored with a glancing header from Blair Duncan’s long throw-in.

Athletic’s Ben Hosie flashed a shot wide after that and substitute Dominick Edwards forced a fine save from Golspie’s Graeme Williamson. Eoghann Davie made if four in the final minute.

Invergordon moved three points clear at the top of the table after a no-nonsense 8-0 win against Bonar Bridge at Dornoch.

Thurso defeated Orkney 1–0 in Caithness thanks to a James Murray penalty.

Meanwhile Bunillidh Thistle picked up their first points of the campaign after a 2-0 win against Halkirk United with goals from Robbie Murray and Billy Cairns.
