CLACHNACUDDIN manager Jordan Macdonald praised referee Gordon Morrison for the action he took after Inverurie Locos player Nathan Meres suffered a head injury which delayed the match for 30 minutes.

The winger suffered concussion during an incident on the hour mark which resulted in an ambulance team driving on to the pitch to treat his injury.

Meres was stretchered off the pitch at Grant Street Park and the ambulance drove off the park before he was loaded on to the vehicle and taken to the Accident and Emergency Department at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Inverurie Locos released a statement on Saturday night that Meres had been given the all clear and was released from hospital.

Macdonald says the incident took away the significance of the result, but praised the actions of the referee who he said dealt with the situation impeccably.

“The referee needs a lot or praise for how he handled the situation.

“He was straight on it when it happened so well done needs to be said to him.

“We were in contact with Inverurie and I spoke to Locos manager Richard Hastings on Saturday night as he gave us the good news Nathan was fine.”

Macdonald says the 3–1 defeat to Inverurie on Saturday was not the start to the Highland League campaign that they were looking for.

The Lilywhites were 2–0 behind at half time with goals from Callum Dingwall and Lloyd Robertson.

Robert Ward made it 3–0 midway through the second half for Inverurie, with new signing Donald Morrison pulling one back five minutes from time, scoring his first goal for the club.

“It was a frustrating afternoon,” admitted Macdonald.

“Inverurie deserved to win the game and it was basic mistakes from us which led to them scoring their goals.

“But there are no complaints from us regarding the scoreline.

“There were some positives to take from the game and we will take them into training this week.”
