Derek Adams running the rule over Ross County squad before deciding how quickly to make changes to the Staggies' style of play

New Ross County manager Derek Adams says he is trying to figure out how quickly he can implement changes to the team's style of play.

Adams was unveiled as Staggies manager for a third time on Monday evening, and took training sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday ahead of this weekend's home match against Kilmarnock.

That is not a lot of time for someone to implement their own ideas and priorities, and it is set to be a recurring issue for Adams with midweek matches on the next two Tuesdays limiting the amount of time he will have to work with players.

So far, his impressions of the County squad have been good, with them showing a willingness to put in the hard work across the board.

However, Adams says it is still too early to know the extent of tweaks he will be able to make imminently as he runs the rule over what his new group of players are capable of.

"They have been very energetic, willing to listen and willing to run and do things properly," Adams said of his early impression of his new squad.

"That's what you expect, but you do go to certain clubs and find sometimes that certain players don't have that ethos – I haven't seen any issues here.

"I've got to try and get what I want across as quickly as possible. The difficulty is that I've got to assess the squad.

"They have been playing in a certain system at this moment in time, and I've got to decide if I change that right away. Are the players capable of changing right away? That's what I've got to decide before the weekend.

"Certain things will change right away, because that's me and how I work. The working week is already going to change, and timings of how and when we train – it's all different. This is the nature of a new manager coming in.

"Certain players have to play in a specific way for me to go and be aggressive, and do the things I want right away, so I've got to marry it up and make a decision on that. The players have got to be comfortable in it as well.

"I've seen players at close hand that are very good at handling the ball, and that's something you get at this level."
